Orrin Hatch: in fact, we've asked the attorney general to -- for years now to come up with any evidence that he can and in the hearing before the judiciary comttee recently he specifically stated that the states are doing a good job at addressing hate crimes. it would also authorize the justice department to provide limited aid and assistance in the state prosecution of bias motivated crimes.

Orrin Hatch: in almost every case raised by theropo of violenc motivated by prejudice, the perpetrators have been dealt with adequately at state level. the matthew shepard case, the two perpetrators are spending life in prison. in other cases some have had the death penalty and others have spent life in prison.
