Olympia Snowe: talk to our constituents. what do you think's happening on main street? we're for jobs. oh, but, by the way, we're going to offer the supplemental that we dropped last week. i defer my arguments on the lending facility in deference to one of my colleagues on the other side. never made my final argument

Olympia Snowe

0:59:03 to 0:59:23( Edit History Discussion )

Olympia Snowe: because we went to the supplemental. they stripped everything, sent it to the house. now they're taking all the rest of it, putting it in this package on top of tax extenders, the fiscal assistance in education funding. they were talking billions. billions. $40 billion, $20 billion, all that in the small business bill.

Olympia Snowe

0:59:24 to 0:59:46( Edit History Discussion )

Olympia Snowe: and for what purpose? is that the way we legislate? you know, the american people know. they know it. they can see through this masquerade. they see it all the time. they know it. that's why they've lost confidence. that's why we are at an historic low, madam president, in terms of public approval. it's a disgrace for this institution.

Olympia Snowe

0:59:47 to 1:00:07( Edit History Discussion )

Olympia Snowe: it's a disgrace. and i'm speaking as one who has worked miltly across the political aisle for more than 30 years in both the house and the united states senate. my career, my legislative record is replete. and i think this is nothing but a disgrace and a sham. and i regret that more than

Olympia Snowe

1:00:08 to 1:00:28( Edit History Discussion )

Olympia Snowe: anything else for the people who are suffering in america in every one of our communities. we all know better. we had no votes yesterday. it was possible to sit down and talk, and talk and see what unanimous consent could be agreed to between the minority

Olympia Snowe

1:00:29 to 1:00:51( Edit History Discussion )

Olympia Snowe: leader and the majority leader. but, no, we decided we're going to forego all that. we're going to play a political game here. isn't this nice, just offer these side-by-side. the american people should know there are alternatives -- so-called alternatives to whatever amendments the majority would allow us to offer. you know, it's a sad commentary.

Olympia Snowe

1:00:52 to 1:01:12( Edit History Discussion )

Olympia Snowe: it's a sad commentary because two-thirds of the american people disagree with the direction we're going. but more than anything else, they need jobs to support their families. i supported the unemployment benefit extension. you know, much to the consternation the minority leader and others on this side, because they wanted to pay for it.

Olympia Snowe

1:01:13 to 1:01:33( Edit History Discussion )

Olympia Snowe: but i did, too, but i knew that wouldn't be acceptable on this sievmentd but i was willing to do it because i didn't want to put people in the position of making a choice in their lives of how they're going to put food on their table i have talked to people in maine, i talk to my constituents and i listen. so that's why i supported

Olympia Snowe

1:01:34 to 1:01:36( Edit History Discussion )

Olympia Snowe: because i thought it was important to do it for the americaneople.
