Cardin: only for himself but his two children for preexisting conditions that didn't even exist, quite frankly, they didn't exist. but the insurance company was just in a positio could write the policy the way they wanted to write it. and this american maryland had no choice. there was n other insurance company that that person could get. there's just no -- there's no competition there.

Cardin: well, we need to do something about that. we need to make it clear. and i agree with the senator, if it takes 10 pages or 100 pages 10r,000 pages -- or 1,000 pages, we've got to make clear that insurance companies cannot do those types of practices against people in this nation. they can't underwrite based upon preexisting conditions.
